Natàlia Castellana Vila

  • Position: Vice-dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and full-Professor of the Mathematics department.
  • Profile: Natàlia Castellana Vila
  • Introduction: Natàlia Castellana Vila is an associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she specializes in topology and homotopy theory. She earned her PhD in Mathematics from UAB and has held various academic positions, including postdoctoral fellowships in the UK and visiting professorships in the United States. Her research primarily focuses on understanding homotopy properties of p-completed classifying spaces of compact Lie groups, as well as fusion systems and their implications in algebraic topology. In addition to her research, Professor Castellana has been involved in several prestigious mathematical programs, including the Mittag-Leffler Institute and the Max-Planck Institute for Mathematics. She has also led multiple research projects aimed at advancing the field of topology and is known for her contributions to the understanding of homotopy idempotent functors and geometric cohomology theories. Professor Castellana has been my teacher in General Topology and Modellization Methods, sharing her expertise and inspiring students in these areas.

Isabel Serra Mochales

  • Introduction: Isabel Serra Mochales is an associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, specializing in statistics and applied mathematics. Her research focuses on statistical modeling, including extreme value statistics and its applications to various fields. She has published several papers on topics such as probability estimation and has contributed to the advancement of statistical methodologies. Professor Serra Mochales is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students in mathematics. She also works at Barcelona Supercomputing Center. Professor Serra Mochales has taught me courses in Statistics, sharing her expertise and guiding students in foundational statistical concepts and methods.

Joan Porti Piqué

  • Position: Full-Professor of the Mathematics department.
  • Profile: Joan Porti Piqué
  • Introduction: Joan Portí Piqué is a full professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, specializing in geometry, particularly in geometric structures in low-dimensional manifolds and geometric group theory. He earned his PhD in Mathematics from the Université Paul Sabatier in 1994 and has since contributed significantly to the field through various publications, including research on the geometrization of 3-dimensional orbifolds. He served as my senior thesis director, where his guidance and expertise were invaluable. Additionally, he has received the Icrea Academia Prize and is actively involved in scientific advisory roles and editorial responsibilities.
